Romelu Lukaku has been left angry and upset over comments made about his Everton departure by Farhad Moshiri, according to BBC Sport.
The broadcaster claim that the striker will seek legal advice after the Toffees owner said that he left the club during to receiving a voodoo voicemail.
Moshiri revealed that he did everything possible to keep Lukaku at Everton, but it was a voicemail that caused his exit.
“Then, somehow, during the meeting they said he called his mother and said he was on a pilgrimage in Africa or somewhere and he had a voodoo and he got this message that he needs to go to Chelsea,” said Moshiri at Everton’s general meeting on Tuesday, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
The Belgian international left the club in the summer, joining Manchester United for £75million.
However, upon hearing Moshiri’s claim, Lukaku issued a statement through his representatives to dismiss the Toffees chief’s version of events and reveal why he departed.
“Romelu is very catholic and voodoo is not part of his life or his beliefs,” said the spokesperson, as quoted by BBC Sport.
“He simply had no faith in Everton and no confidence in Mr Moshiri’s project, that is why he did not want to sign on any condition.”
The 24-year-old spent three years at the Toffees, after previously spending a season on loan from Chelsea, and scored 87 goals in 166 appearances during his time.
It’s worrying that the Everton chief would make comments such as this. The Toffees have already had a tumultuous season, and the last thing they need is off the field issues distracting them from what has been an impressive turn around on the pitch.
Lukaku was a success at Everton, but both have moved on to start different chapters in their career. There was no need for Moshiri to share a bizarre story, truthful or not, at the Everton General meeting on Tuesday. Toffees fans will be hoping the situation between the pair is resolved quietly, as it just brings negative attention to the club.
Everton were pretty awful at the time, playing a style that not many people appreciated so I can see why Lukaku & Barkley left; however, when the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United & Manchester City come calling with their big wallets a players' head is turned for the get rich style. Everything else is just a smokescreen!
