Duncan Ferguson has paid tribute to Romelu Lukaku, describing the forward as “a perfectionist” who deserves to have overtaken his Premier League goalscoring record.
Ferguson presented Lukaku with a piece of commemorative artwork at Finch Farm on Wednesday, before revealing his admiration for the man who toppled his tally of 60 Premier League strikes in netting against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
Speaking exclusively to evertontv, Ferguson said: “It’s a great achievement, isn’t it? In a short period of time as well. He’s not played many games and he’s battered the goals in, so fair play to him. He’s a fantastic player and a real goal machine.
“I’m sure that Rom will get many, many more goals and he deserves it. He works hard, he’s got a real hunger to score goals, he’s a perfectionist, an all-round player and his hard work is paying off.”
Lukaku, whose Everton record now reads 61 goals in 130 league outings, added: “I’m really proud and happy for everybody who has helped me.
“He [Duncan] is always the one who gets me out there, who’s willing to help me practise my finishing, so it’s been a nice journey.”
